Free Your Joints—Release the Pain, Naturally.
What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the synovial membranes that line the joints. This persistent inflammation leads to pain, swelling, stiffness, and progressive joint deformity, most commonly affecting the hands, wrists, knees, and feet. Conventional medicine relies heavily on long-term immunosuppressive drugs to slow the disease, yet these often bring side-effects. At Kaivalya Ayurveda, we look beyond symptom suppression and strive to heal from the inside out—restoring joint function, reducing inflammation, and improving overall vitality.
Ayurvedic View of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Classical Ayurveda refers to RA as “Amavata.” The term reflects two key factors: Ama (undigested toxins circulating in the body) and an aggravated Vata dosha, which together lodge in the joints (Sandhis), causing pain, swelling, and stiffness. Kapha may also be involved in early, edematous stages. The primary goal, therefore, is to kindle the digestive fire (Agni), expel Ama, and pacify Vata so that joints regain mobility and strength. At Kaivalya Ayurveda, every treatment protocol begins with a detailed doshic assessment, ensuring therapies are tailored to each patient’s constitution and stage of disease.
Causes of Rheumatoid Arthritis
From an Ayurvedic perspective, RA often arises from regular intake of hard-to-digest, heavy, or incompatible foods (such as dairy with sour fruits), irregular meal times, and sedentary habits that weaken digestion and generate Ama. Cold, damp climates, suppressed emotions, excessive stress, and overexertion further aggravate Vata and allow toxins to accumulate in the joints. Modern medicine cites genetic predisposition and immune dysregulation as additional triggers. Kaivalya Ayurveda integrates both views, identifying dietary, lifestyle, and psychosomatic contributors to craft a truly holistic treatment plan.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Our approach combines deep detoxification, joint-specific therapies, and rejuvenation. Initial Langhana (lightening) methods and Panchakarma—particularly Virechana (purgation) and Basti (medicated enemas)—purge Ama and balance Vata. External treatments like Patra Pinda Sweda (herbal-leaf poultice massage), Janu Basti/Greeva Basti (warm oil pooling on knees or neck), and Lepana (medicated pastes) soothe inflamed joints and restore mobility. Internally, we prescribe formulations such as Rasnadi Guggulu, Simhanada Guggulu, Dashmool Kwath, and Maharasnadi Kashayam, supported by an anti-inflammatory, Vata-pacifying diet rich in warm, easily digestible foods. Gentle yogic stretches, pranayama, and stress-management techniques complete the regimen, all overseen by Dr. Subodh Chaturvedi and our experienced team for safe, lasting results.
